Re-post of September Welcome back to School

Welcome back to school families!

We have a lot of exciting opportunities for students and families this year.

Full Moon Festival is almost here!

Why not celebrate by purchasing some freshly made, preservative free mooncakes while also supporting the great programs Shu Ren has to offer? Orders can be dropped off at the office in the Shu Ren mailbox no later than Tuesday, September 6th. Orders will be available to pick up after school on Thursday and Friday, September 8th and 9th from 2:15-3:00. Can't pick them up after school? Let us know and we can deliver them to your child's classroom or help you make other arrangements.

Shu Ren is sponsoring 3 after school activities that support our mission of bringing Chinese language and culture to Woodstock.

There is an automatic $100 subsidy per class per student just for signing your child up! We are pleased to be supporting a beginning and advanced Wushu class as well as a Chinese Choir. You do not need to be in the immersion program to take advantage of these discounts, and you do not need to speak Chinese to join the choir! Signup can for each of these classes can be found on the PTA after school class listings here.

Homework Help is back!

We are pleased to be offering 4 full days of Chinese homework help to Woodstock Students. As always, this program is free to students, although we do need one parent volunteer each day to pick kids up from the gym, make sure they are staying on task while in Homework help, and dismiss them to guardians or Champions when they finish their homework. There is at least one Chinese speaking tutor to help the kids as they need it each day. To sign your child up for Homework help or sign up as a parent volunteer, check out the tab above called "Mandarin Learning resources." You can find links for both signups there.

Lunar New Year in September?

No, Lunar New year is not in September, but we hope to bring back our annual Lunar New Year Celebration to welcome in the year of the Rabbit. The New Year officially starts next year on Sunday, January 22. In order to create the type of celebration we all know and love, we need a team of volunteers to start putting some ideas together. We have a tremendous amount of historical knowledge and several people to help give tips on what has been done in the past. You won't need to reinvent the wheel! If you are interested in participating or leading, please reach out as soon as possible so we can get the planning started!

Calling all Volunteers!

Wanting to Volunteer? Not sure what to do? Drop us a note and we can let you know what opportunities we have available. One key need we have right now is a new person to manage our website. If you are interested in this or other opportunities, please email Chair@shurenofportland.org

Finally, our general meetings are always open to the public. Our first one will be on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 7:00-8:30 PM, held virtually by Google meet. You can join using this google Meet code: frz-mdgu-uyg
