The GALA is an annual event put on by dedicated parents who's children are students in Portlands Mandarin Immersion Program at Woodstock, Hosford and Cleveland. The funds are used to subsidize the cost of the 8th grade Chinese Research Residency trip. This trip can cost in excess of $3,500.00. Shu Ren hopes to bring parent cost down to around $500 per family who chooses to go.

This residency is more than just educational. It allows the child to see and be apart of the culture and language they've been studying since Kindergarten. It is a time for renewal. Often this trip stimulates the student and gets them excited about Chinese again where their interest may have been waning.

This year the Gala will be held at the Airport Holiday Inn on February 21, 2009.
